User Centered Manifesto

About the Manifesto
After writing this artical I thought it was time to come up with a site like this. CSS Purists are making “valid” CSS / XHTML code at the expense of the end user. Flash folks are creating non-traditional interfaces that take minutes to download over broadband that totally ignore the end users needs.

This manifesto is a short declaration of a change in direction for the web design community. Read the following statements, if you agree, post a link to this site on your blog, or take a badge and link back.

  • All development regardless of CSS, Flash, DHTML, Perl, yadda, yadda will always think of the needs of the user first before any other agenda.
  • I will strive to use technology that best meets the needs of the end user.
  • I WILL use a table design layout if it meets the needs of the end user.
  • I will use a pure CSS layout where necessary.
  • I will NOT use Flash for the sake of Flash.
  • I will create Flash that adds value to a project.
  • I will be a champion of user centered (or in Canada centred) design in every project I under take.
  • I will not be ashamed of signing this manifesto!
  • I will share this manifesto with other like-minded individuals, and spread the word… change is in the air.

If you agree with the above statements… then:

  • Sign your name to the comment field below with a link back to your site! Your digital signature!
  • Link to this site
  • Encourage user centred design

I think CSS is just a trendy thing, like flash used to be when it came to be, but what the heck – count me in!
