Flash 99% Good old site reposted

I’ve decided to repost the old Flash 99% Good site that won all the awards back in the day. (The site won Communication Arts site of the week, Macromedia Shocked Site of the Day.. and a bunch of others!). It’s hard to believe that this site got all that attention in retrospect. For those of you who are not familiar with the story here is the short version.

Jakob Nielsen wrote the now infamous “Flash 99% Bad Article ” This article lead to a huge out-cry from many Flash developers. It also pushed Macromedia at the time to “hire” Jakob to help iron out Flash usability problems. (note: Jakob went magically silent after this about Flash problems.. hmmm) At any rate a few months later McGraw-Hill employed us to write a book Flash 99% Good: A guide to Macromedia Flash Usability.   The book did “ok”, but the website to promote it did amazing (isn’t that funny!) And the rest is history. Flash 99% Good has been around along time now. We get over 30,000 uniques a month which is pretty good for a little operation.

My goal with the current site is to refocus it back on it’s original mission. To bring Flash usability to the attention of web designers. I plan to do this by cutting out the content that doesn’t have anything to do with Flash usability. And in the future to ensure all posts here are Flash usability related. I also plan to start a “Best Use” Flash site each month. Not really an award, but more of a gallery of sites for us to learn from. I’ve wondered away from the orginal mission, and it’s time to refocus!
