Skitch is great for getting screen shots to your blog

skitch3I recently started using a gem of software called “Skitch”. Basically what it does is enables you to take a screen capture of anything on your screen.   While this by it’s self is not revolutionary, what makes Skitch so amazing is how easy it is to get a screen capture of something from the screen into your website or blog. In fact this blog post is the first use of this tool with WordPress. Basically this is how easy this software is to use:

1. Sign up for the service

2. Add your FTP information to your “uploads” directory in WordPress (or whatever directory your blog software uses)

3.Take a snap shot

4. Hit “Webpost”

5. The “webpost” button will turn to “copy to clipboard”

6. Paste the URL to the image into your blog post, done!

Simple as pie, no more trips through separate programs. Before my pipeline to add a image to the blog was, use a screen capture tool, export to hard drive, upload to blog, post to blog. Now our lives are much, much easier. If you don’t have a blog or a website, you can even use Skitch’s built in web hosting area to share with family and friends. It works the same only you don’t have to worry about all that web hosting business. So a great tool for the home-hobbiest as well.
